SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ameridian Specialty Services of Cincinnati, Ohio is partnering with Inovateus Solar, LLC on an 80KW solar power installation in the State of Ohio. Ameridian Specialty Services is a full-service general contractor specializing in commercial roof installations including UNI-SOLAR® laminates manufactured by United Solar, the world’s largest producer of flexible solar panels. The installation was commissioned and went online August 4th at Ameridian’s corporate headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.

“Our 30,000 square foot facility is the perfect place to install this solar system. With the federal and state funds available, our payback will occur in just a few years,” states Matt Owens, a NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installer and director of operations for Ameridian’s Solar and Renewable Energy Division. “Our business is installing these systems for commercial enterprises just like ourselves. It simply makes sense to invest in ourselves and lead by example. I’m looking forward to bringing clients here to see exactly how the system works,” Owens states.

The Realities of Investing in Solar Power—Incentives can pay up to 70 percent

Financial incentives on the state and local level in the form of tax credits and grants are significant for photovoltaic installations. Combined incentives total well over 70 percent of the cost of the project. There are four major components of the payback calculations:

  1. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides a federal grant for 30 percent of the total cost of the project.
  2. The state of Ohio Advanced Energy Fund Grant contributes up to 50 percent of the total cost.
  3. The renewable energy credits will be sold to Ohio utility companies or other entities seeking energy credits.
  4. Ameridian will enjoy energy savings of 65 percent on their energy consumption for 25 plus years—the expected life cycle of this system.

All non-residential PV systems are eligible for a grant of $3.50 per watt (DC). The maximum grant award for PV systems is 50 percent of project costs or $150,000 for traditional systems, whichever is less; and 50 percent of project costs or $200,000 for third-party systems, whichever is less.

Inovateus first worked with Ameridian on the design and construction of an eight-acre, 1.134 megawatt ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system for Dayton Power and Light (DP&L) Company in Montgomery County, Ohio.

“We have really enjoyed working with everyone at Ameridian. I enjoy spending time with them on projects and seeing it through to the end,” states Peter Rienks, key accounts manager for Inovateus Solar. “I am very happy for them that they were able to take advantage of the Ohio incentives and save a lot of money on their own utility costs. Ameridian provided the highest quality installation for Dayton Power and Light and we are looking forward to working with them on many more mega-watts.”

Ameridian’s Solar and Renewable Energy Division is expert in commercial and utility scale solar photovoltaic system design, procurement and installation. They also assist clients with grant and incentive paperwork. Options are offered for third party ownership in the form of Power Purchase Agreements. Ameridian also provides the required service and maintenance on the equipment.

Inovateus Solar specified UNI-SOLAR flexible thin-film solar panels for the Ameridian installation. These panels create a lighter-weight, single-ply roofing membrane with modules that generate 144 watts each.

“United Solar is very pleased to be working with Inovateus and Ameridian Specialty Services, and we’re inspired by their enthusiasm to deploy solar energy in Ohio,” says Chris Bala, United Solar’s VP Sales Americas Central Region. “By installing it on their own headquarters they are demonstrating a strong commitment to help make Ohio a cleaner, greener place to live.”

United Solar is a leader in building-integrated and rooftop photovoltaics. The company manufactures, sells and installs thin-film solar laminates that convert sunlight to energy using proprietary technology. United Solar’s UNI-SOLAR brand products are unique because of their flexibility, lightweight, ease of installation, durability, and real-world efficiency.

Recently voted one of the State of Indiana’s Top Companies to Watch, in the past six months Inovateus Solar has completed the largest solar installation in the state of Michigan and Indiana and some of the largest utility grade installations in the Midwest.
